Why I’m Changing Paths

From Events to Entrepreneurship

If you’ve known me for any length of time, you probably know I love a good event. Give me a theme, a street, and some time, and I’ll find a way to bring people together, make it meaningful, and sprinkle in some magic. For the last three years, that was my life. Planning signature events, coordinating vendors, answering emails at all hours, and keeping the energy alive in Downtown Iron Mountain.

And I truly believed I would do that forever.

For a long time, I saw myself growing in that role. Staying rooted in community work and continuing to build bigger and better events. But life has a way of nudging you toward something new when it knows your atmosphere is starting to hold you back. Over time, I started to feel a shift. One that pushed me to see beyond the plans I had made for myself.

Part of that shift came when my husband, Chris, and I began exploring the idea of purchasing a commercial property for Preferred Powersports. That possibility opened up a whole new perspective. Chris was moving in one direction, and I was heading in another. We needed to align our goals. I still wanted to pursue the same dreams. Supporting local businesses, creating vibrant experiences, helping others succeed, but now I have the chance to do it in a way that also supports me.

That’s how Prefer.Kenzie was born.

This business is my way of staying open to what’s next. However that may look. I’m purposefully leaving space for flexibility and freedom, but I’m also serious about showing up and doing meaningful work. I plan to work with small businesses, nonprofits, organizations, and anyone who needs a creative partner or extra support. Whether it’s consulting, coaching, coordination, or collaborating on a project. I’m here for it.

Prefer.Kenzie is also becoming my way of being present in the community with more intention. Joining organizations like The Cure and the Dickinson Community Foundation, to show support, stay connected, build relationships, and represent my business where it matters most. If it aligns with my values and brings good energy, I’m in.

My work is evolving, and so is my life. I want to travel more, say yes to the things that light me up, and keep creating space for both purpose and play. I’m building something flexible and strong. Something that gives me room to grow while still staying rooted in what I value most.

This blog will grow with me. It will hold stories, insights, and the projects I’m proud of. It’s a portfolio of what I’ve done—and a space for what’s still to come. However you found your way here, I hope you leave with something useful or inspiring.
