My Unexpected Journey: Why I’m Changing Paths
In life, there comes a moment when you feel a significant shift must be made. A realization that the path you're on, while fulfilling, might not be the only path for you. For me, that moment prompted a significant change in my career and how I plan to engage with the world. This is the story of that change and the birth of Prefer Kenzie.
For three years, I was emersed in event planning, coordinating vendors, and managing activities in Downtown Iron Mountain. I truly believed Downtown IM would be my lifelong career. It was a dynamic role where I felt I was constantly supporting local businesses, challenging myself, and creating vibrant experiences for our community. The energy I felt each time we celebrated a success was unmatchable, and the sense of hard work and contributing to this place we call home was immensely fulfilling. I truly felt I was where I was meant to be, and making a tangible difference.
The Invisible Weight
However, I began to feel a shift, one that manifested as an invisible weight I carried each day. As I once heard Heather Ruesch say, 'it is a bunch of tiny pebbles piling up on your shoulders, that you carry with you everywhere. The pebbles do not stay in the office, they stay with you.' There was a growing realization that my current environment, while familiar and filled with so many wonderful memories, was inadvertently holding me back from evolving, from truly breathing. Despite all my efforts and avenues taken, it became clear the space itself was no longer one where I could thrive. After looking for solutions and seeking support, I started to see my well-being was pushing me towards a different path. This challenging period proved to be a powerful shift, prompting reflection and take the time to analyze what life I truly wanted to build.
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”
Building a New Avenue: The Launch of Prefer Kenzie
I knew I wanted to continue supporting local businesses, creating vibrant experiences, and helping others succeed. But this time, it had to be at a level that truly supports me personally. That's why I launched Prefer Kenzie. This new venture is designed for flexibility and freedom, allowing me to embrace all the adventures life brings. It lets me focus on being truly present and appreciating every detail, aligning my work with how I want to live.
Prefer Kenzie also serves as a central point for me to connect with the community with more intention. I'm excited to find more places where my involvement can truly contribute, especially with incredible organizations like The Cure and the Dickinson Community Foundation. This path allows me to create a tangible difference where it matters. On a personal level, this new chapter allows my work and my life to truly evolve. I envision more travel, more opportunities to say 'yes' to things that genuinely inspire me, intentionally doing meaningful work with vibrant energy.
